Beyond the Track: Great Minds Students Explore Fencing

This summer, Great Minds students stepped onto the fencing strip for six sessions designed to introduce them to a sport that combines coordination, confidence, discipline, and strategy. With guidance from Coach Dwight Smith, Coach Shomari Moore, Coach Chandler Contreras, and Coach Niki Agrawal, students progressed from learning how to hold a foil and practicing basic movements to observing opponents, responding with intention, and moving with greater control.

The Armory is proud to offer experiences like fencing that expand the ways young people can move their bodies, challenge themselves, and find success through athletics. By introducing students to opportunities beyond traditional sports, Great Minds helps them develop physical confidence, discover new abilities, and recognize that they are capable of learning and accomplishing hard things.
