In The Heights, Seniors AIM High

Seniors AIM High is a new initiative that gathers adults ages 60+ from Washington Heights, Inwood, and Harlem.

The Seniors AIM High Program has been flourishing with applicants. With almost 200 seniors attending our sessions, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10-11 a.m., we are overjoyed with the amount of enthusiasm in the building. This past summer we had some major league fun cheering on the NY Yankees in celebration of our 1st anniversary! In addition, we had a chance to bring our sneaker game to new heights, thanks to our sponsors, Nike, who gave each individual a new pair of sneakers. We are so excited to be the home to so many residents in the Washington Heights community, promoting senior fitness and wellness. These upcoming November sessions will be returning to just Tuesdays from 10 - 11 a.m.

Member Spotlight

We would like to give a special shout-out to Trena Banks, who is going above and beyond our sessions. She is training for the 2023 TCS New York City Marathon, which she is running in support of UNICEF. Trena has been following the Nike Marathon Training Plan as she gets ready for the big day. Trena's son James is a track and field athlete at Penn State University, and he has been competing at The Armory since high school. The two now have their own fond memories of The Armory, and we are happy to share them with you.

Another noteworthy participant is Ken McGrory, who is a Champions Division Manager for Uptown Hoops NYC. Ken and his son Nate run a dynamic program for basketball players with different developmental, social, and emotional abilities. These athletes and their families have found a warm, welcoming community in the co-ed Champions Program, which is now gearing up for its 24th year. Best of luck to all participants this season!
