Running with Heroes: A Day to Remember at The Armory
On Monday, May 28th, The Armory hosted a heartwarming and high-energy celebration during our City Track and Little Feet Afterschool programs: Real Heroes Day. Representatives from the FDNY and NYPD—true local heroes—joined our students on the track for an unforgettable afternoon of play, learning, and connection. These brave men and women shared stories about their roles in keeping our community safe, answered curious questions from our students, and even showed off their athleticism through tug-of-war battles, push-up contests, and relay runs on our world-renowned track. Their presence brought both excitement and inspiration to everyone in attendance.
A special highlight was the visit from the FDNY’s fire dogs, who dazzled the children with stories of their bravery in emergency situations—like how they can sniff out danger in burning buildings. Students also had the unique opportunity to step inside a real ambulance and explore the equipment, helping to remove the fear and mystery surrounding medical emergencies. The day was about more than fun—it was about building trust and familiarity with the heroes who serve our city. We hope our students walked away with lasting memories, new knowledge, and a deeper sense of comfort and connection to the first responders who are always there to help.
