Building Home Libraries for Lifelong Learning with KPMG
The Armory Foundation recently partnered with KPMG for a special afternoon of learning, creativity, and community during our Building Home Libraries for Lifelong Learning event. Together, 34 KPMG volunteers joined students from the Great Minds program for an afternoon of hands-on experience centered around the joy and power of reading.
Throughout the event, volunteers and students worked side by side building personal bookshelves. They each created a lasting space where students can store and treasure the books they’ll read this summer and throughout their lives. From the sounds of hammers tapping nails to the smiles shared across the room, the energy inside The Armory was filled with excitement, teamwork, and purpose.
In addition to building bookshelves, the event featured a special book fair where KPMG volunteers selected meaningful books from their own childhoods to share with students. Through quick “elevator pitch” style conversations, volunteers introduced students to stories that inspired them growing up, giving each child the opportunity to discover new books through personal connection and storytelling. By the end of the afternoon, every student went home with six new books to add to their growing home libraries.
A special thank you to our friends at KPMG for helping make this day possible and for their continued support of the students in the Great Minds program. Their enthusiasm, generosity, and commitment to lifelong learning helped create a memorable experience for every child who participated.
